State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has constituted an Eight Man Implementation Committee that would facilitate the movement of traders to the Jalingo Ultra Modern Market.
Governor Darius Ishaku stated this yesterday
while receiving a report from the verification
committee set up to investigate the illegal
occupation of the Jalingo Ultra Modern Market at
Kpantinapu saying that, he intends to make the
market vibrant and as well decongest the Jalingo
main market where people resident in the State
capital and its environs will have a choice of
where to go for shopping depending on the
proximity.
He also commended the verification committee
for coming up with exact numbers of shops and
various types in the Ultra Modern Market and
going ahead to allocate some to those that intend
to start business at the market.
Darius Ishaku said the one hundred and one
million, two hundred and thirty thousand Naira
realised by the verification committee will be
judiciously utilised, directing the implementation
committee to implement all the decisions taken
by the verification committee and allocate the
shops appropriately to those that have made
payments for the shops so that the market will
take off immediately.
Presenting the committee’s report to the
Governor of the State, Arc. Darius Dickson
Ishaku, the Secretary to the State Government,
Anthony Jellason informed the Governor that in
the course of carrying out their assignment when
traders besieged the Jalingo Ultra Modern
Market and allocated shops to themselves, the
committee discovered there are about 2,134
shops of five different categories.
He further revealed that the verification
committee allocated some shops to those that
showed genuine interest in owning shops at the
Market and realized the sum one hundred and
one million, two hundred and thirty thousand
naira which he said is in the custody of Taraba
Savings and Loans Limited.
The SSG gave the breakdown of the shops in the
Market as follows, large shops, one hundred and
fifty in numbers out of which eighty eight have
been allocated with sixty five unallocated,
medium shops, 784 in numbers with 175
allocated while 610 are unallocated and small
shops, 600 in numbers with 56 already allocated
with about 544 still remaining.
While the semi lockup shops are 300 in numbers
out of which 21 have been issued out, with 279
unallocated, also available are 300 open shops
out of which 6 have been allocated and about 294
are still available.
He told the Governor that the committee has
already issued out about 279 shops of different
types to prospective traders and total numbers
of unallocated shops stand at 1, 516 of the five
categories.
The Secretary to the State Government revealed
that at the end of the assignment people with
papers were screened to ascertain the
genuineness of their papers and also
recommended that those who have been
allocated shops should be made to immediately
move in and commence business activities in the
ultra modern Market.
The implementation committee has Shuaibu
Ataka as Chairman and the members included
Fred Audu Jankada, Joseph Bello from Ministry
of Housing, MD/ CEO Taraba Savings and Loans,
Tijani Magaji from Ministry of Finance, Lydia
Wilson, John Ahmadu and Umar Columbus as
the Secretary of the Eight Man Committee.
