Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has
encouraged the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission TSIEC, to visit States that have successfully conducted Local Government election in order help them strategise and conduct a hitch free election in the State.

Governor Darius Ishaku gave the advice while on
working visit to the headquarters of the TSIEC, to
acquaint himself with the level of preparation as
well as inspect the pace of renovation currently
going on which is being undertaken by the new
leadership of the Commission.
He assured the Chairman that the money
expended on the renovation work will be
refunded to the Commission by State
Government, adding that, his administration will
holistically look into areas that needs urgent
Government attention with a view to addressing
them most especially now that the Commission
will soon carry out a herculean task of
conducting elections that his administration
expects it to be free, fair and acceptable to the
people of the State and beyond.

The Governor also used the opportunity to inform the
Chairman and Commissioner of the Commission that the Taraba State House of Assembly had concluded its assignment of passing new laws that will guide the conduct of the forth coming Local Government election, stressing that, his administration will not accept any form of ineptitude during the exercise.
He further maintained that his administration is
poised to give the people of the State the best
election ever conducted since the creation of the
State and reminded the Commission’s Staff that,
the onus of conducting credible and acceptable
elections lies with them and quickly reaffirmed
that his Government will work assiduously and
collaboratively with the Commission in ensuring
that, all statutory responsibilities to the
Commission are fulfilled as required.

Speaking while taking the Governor round the renovation areas, the Chairman of TSIEC, Dr. Philip Danladi Duwe said, the renovation work is part of the Commission’s preparation for the conduct of the
forthcoming elections, particularly in providing
conducive working environment for all the
staff of the Commission in order to enhance
productivity.

The TSIEC Chairman however enumerated some
of the major challenges of the Commission to
the Governor which included, logistics,
inadequate funds and lack of sufficient offices for
staff and solicited for immediate support from
Government so as to be able to deliver on its
mandate effectively and successfully.
