The Taraba Mandate Group, TMG, has chastised
Hajiya Aisha Alhassan, the All Progressives
Congress,APC gubernatorial candidate in the state
over her comments in a leaked video.
The group which had earlier maintained its worries
over Aisha’s links with the judiciary said the latest
video in which she boasted that she will win at the
Supreme Court is a cause for concern.
A Court of Appeal last week set aside the tribunal
ruling which declared Aisha as Taraba governor-
elect. The Appeal court sitting in Abuja said Darius
Ishaku was validly elected as the governor of Taraba.
But Aisha, presently the minister of women affairs,
has been caught on video expressing her disgust
over the Appeal court’s verdict.
According to Mustapha Ajiya, Coordinator, TMG. “In
the video, enjoying wide circulation, Aisha was
shown chatting with her supporters where she
recounted her ordeal at losing at the Appeal Court.
Apart from calling the judgement a fake one, she
went on to reveal that she actually had a pre-
knowledge of the judgement. Speaking in Hausa, she
said one of the judges confirmed to her that she
would win the case. She continued that her source
eventually called her to break the sad news of her
defeat to her a day before the judgement was
announced. And that because she knew the outcome
of the judgement, she didn’t appear in court, neither
did she tell her supporters about it. She then told her
fans not to worry because she was headed to the
Supreme Court, where, according to her, she would
eventually win.
“Another issue she raised was that there were no
jubilations in the PDP camp after the verdict was
announced. She said it was an indication that even
the PDP wasn’t happy at the verdict. That is laughable
because the teeming people of Taraba State actually
welcomed the judgement. In fact, all right thinking
Nigerians, especially legal luminaries, who
unanimously condemned the initial verdict by the
lower tribunal, were full of joy. As far as they were
concerned, justice was served. And if our jubilation
was not wild, it is because our supporters are
disciplined. In fact the Executive Governor of Taraba
State, Arc. Darius Ishaku had, immediately after his
victory at the Appeal Court called on his supporters
and Tarabans to celebrate his victory indoors. His
reason for this directive was to avoid any crisis that
could result from any form of wild jubilations.
Governor Darius, an educated and exposed leader
that he is, was more concerned about the security of
lives than his victory. It is therefore laughable that
APC quickly rushed into misinterpreting this rare
demonstration of a high sense of responsibility by a
people-oriented leader. When the first judgement
came out last November, APC supporters, unruly as
ever, took to the streets to unleash the dragon.
Hence, the crises that followed. Our supporters did
rejoice and are still jubilant but in a mature way. But
let’s talk about the video itself and its implications.”
