The Nigeria Police force headquarters, Abuja, has
perfected plans to arrest top officials of Taraba state
government. Already, it has ordered them to appear
before it tomorrow Monday- a move viewed as a
prelude to an arrest. Taraba news can confirm that
top on the list of those ordered to appear on Monday
are the Chief of Staff to Governor Darius Ishaku, Hon.
Rebo Usman, the Secretary to the State Government
(SSG), Anthony Jellason and former SSG, Amb.
Emmanuel Njiwah.
Others on the list include former commissioner of
women affairs, Mrs. Charity Green, former
commissioner of education, Mr. Yakubu Agbaizo and
others former and serving top government
functionaries in the current administration.
Although the police have said the invitation is in
furtherance of investigations into allegations of
misappropriation of flood relief funds, a source close
to the development hinted at a political witch hunt.
According to the insider, the invitation is not
unconnected to the ongoing tussle over the
governorship election Governor Darius Dickson
Ishaku and Hajiya Aisha Alhassan. Some of the
officials invited, like the COS are currently top
notchers of the new government in Jalingo.
This view maintains that the resuscitation of the flood
probe, a matter in court, is a form of intimidation by
the opposition in the state.
According to the source “it is not difficult to see the
voice of Esau and the hand of Jacob in this one. Their
target is the Chief of staff, Rebo, who was recently
very vociferous in his attack of the tribunal verdict
that purportedly sacked Governor Darius Dickson
Ishaku. In fact, apart from phone threats, Rebo was
almost arrested after he granted a scathing television
interview. This is intimidation. The idea is to frighten
the ruling party and coerce them to silence. “
Rebo was on the African Independent Television (AIT)
program Kakaki and Channels TV to denounce the
tribunal ruling. He pointedly accused the All
Progressive Congress (APC) of trying to foment crisis
in the state. Rebo also called on President
Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the political
impasse in the state.
An insider said this affront must have angered the
APC. He went on to stress that the party at the center
might have begun flexing its power in the state. He
noted that it smacked of political attacks for a case in
court to attract a fresh summon by the police highest
command.
” This matter has already been thrashed out by the
EFCC before. In fact, they found nothing in it. Then
now the matter is in court. It is strange that the IGP
should now be inviting people for such a matter.
What is more, everyone knows that all the people
invited are in the current administration that is
engaging the APC government in legal tussle. They
know they would lose in court so they want to punish
Darius cabinet member. This is also a way of getting
back at a government they can not sack by law. “
The flood relief fund crisis started under former
Acting Governor Garba Umar who sacked many
members of Governor Danbaba Suntai’s cabinet.
Umar too was eventually sacked by the Supreme
Court with the proviso that all his actions in
government as acting governor, including those
sackings, were not acknowledged by law.
