Taraba women protest tribunal judgment
Following the Saturday tribunal judgment that sacked
the governor of Taraba state, Darius Ishaku, on
ground that his party (PDP) did not conduct any
primary election for him to have emerged as the
party’s governorship candidate for the 2015 general
election, women across the sixteen local government
areas of the state have taken to the streets of Jalingo
in protest against the judgment.
The women, led by Mrs. Fati Hassan and who
converged at the women and Youths Development
center, opposite Muslim Council in Jalingo, Taraba
state capital, carried leaves and chanted solidarity
songs while demanding for the return of their
mandate. “all we are saying ,,,,,, give us justice, all we
are saying,,,,,,,,, return our mandate” they chanted.
Some of the women leaders from the various local
government areas gave their displeasures on the
judgement. The former PDP deputy national women
leader, Mrs Hauwa Andetu said the judgment was a
robbery to Taraba state mandate. She further stated
that lives were already being lost in the state since
the pronouncement of the judgment last Saturday as
the judgment was not a reflection of the majority of
the party.
“We don’t want outbreak of peace in Taraba state.
The verdict predicted doom. Our sons are dying, we
are tired of loosing our husbands through injustices.
Wwhy was Ishaku accepted in the first place at INEC?
Why are they given a mandate we elected to
someone who did not win our votes? This is injustice”
“The primary election that produced the governor in
Abuja was peaceful and it was not only Taraba state
that conducted their primaries in Abuja. What
happened to the other states? We are calling on the
chief judge of the federation to constitute another
panel to investigate the three judges that constitutes
the Taraba governorship election tribunal”
“We demand for clear justice over the unjust
Saturday judgment. It was Darius Ishaku we voted for
not Aisha Arhasan. All of us here are women from
Taraba state, anybody can trace our roots down to
our local government areas”
“We are not hired women like the once on the streets
of Abuja. We are ready to fight for our right even if
our husbands have gone to sleep over the issue. It is
our children and our husbands that were been killed
at any time injustice was being done. We demand
that the appeal court should be just and return the
mandate to the rightful owner,” the women
demanded.
